Our Hearing Aid Services
For a hearing aid assessment it is not necessary to have a medical referral and appointments can be booked with one of our Hearing Aid Audiologists.
However, to ensure that the most accurate results are obtained from hearing tests it is advisable to have your ears checked and any wax removed by your GP before attending the Centre.
It may be helpful to you to bring a relative or friend to help you decide what is best for you. If you are unable to visit the Centre we will be happy to arrange a home visit. The procedure for a full hearing aid assessment is as follows:
- Before commencing the tests we carry out an otoscopic examination (this simply means we look in your ears for any signs of abnormality)
- We discuss with you the difficulties that you are having with your hearing and any relevant medical history.
- We test your hearing by performing Pure Tone Audiometry, Speech Audiometry and any other relevant audiological tests.
- The results of the test are discussed with you and if necessary we will inform you if you require an opinion from an Ear Nose and Throat Specialist.
- We will give you an honest opinion as to whether or not you require a hearing aid.
- We will fully discuss with you the various types of hearing aids available and their suitability for your hearing loss, taking into account your lifestyle requirements and any possible need for other environmental aids.
- If you would like to place an order for hearing aids to be fitted on a trial basis we will then take impressions of your ears as appropriate.
- If however you do not wish to make a decision at this stage we will give you any relevant information for you to take home with you so that you may discuss your decision with your family or friends.
- The fitting of the hearing aids usually takes place approximately 2-3 weeks after this. At this appointment full instructions on how to use the hearing aids are given. We also give you helpful advice on how to make the most of your hearing and what to expect from the instruments.
- Some time between 2-6 weeks later we invite you back to see us so that we can discuss your progress and make any fine tuning adjustments that may be required.
- Further follow up appointments are booked as necessary, and the number required is variable. However as a general guide, most people need at least two, and these can be several weeks apart. We do not make an extra charge for these follow up visits.
- Further follow up appointments can be booked at any time if required but may be chargeable.
All hearing aids are available on a trial basis for 30 days. If you do not find the hearing aid satisfactory we will either exchange it or refund your money and simply charge our consultation and fitting fee of £150.
